Azulejos are decorative ceramic tiles that are a rich part of Iberian culture. They adorn public buildings, restaurants, homes, churches, and transit stations all over the region. Originating in the 13th century as geometric patterns, they have since expanded into intricate didactic designs. A dedicated national museum holds one of the largest azulejos collections in the world and laws are helping to preserve them and their buildings.
